The institution itself has been important to the town since 1909 when the Loughborough Technical Institute began, which later transformed into Loughborough University in 1966.

This University has a great location and serene surroundings, the campus is a massive 44 acres which is the equivalent of over 7,000 tennis courts. In 2015 Loughborough University also acquired and opened a second campus in Stratford, whose site was formerly the broadcast centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, built for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
